Oakland’s 6th round draft pick for 2007: Scott Hodsdon - RHP/SS

Jun 08, 2007 @ 09:37 am by Oz

hodsdon-scott2.jpg6′2" 195lb senior from Azusa Pacific University who throws right handed and has been known to patrol the infield.

Hodsdon played solid shortstop for several seasons, before being shifted to third base to save his arm after being moved into the rotation.

Hit clean-up for Azusa and has good speed, led his school in batting average (.423) in 2006, as well as in home runs (9), runsscored (41) and batted in (45), also stole 13 bases in 15 attempts.

In 2007, he hit .363 with 26 home runs and 100 runs batted in, propelling him towards the top of the draft charts. With ball in hand he was no slouch either, going 10-1 with a 3.17 ERA, 7 saves, 4 complete games and 3 shutouts. That’s some flexibility right there.

Will Oakland run him out as a starter, reliever or infielder? I’m guessing he starts.

Project level for 2007: Short season ball, though could jump to Kane County quickly if his power numbers (with the ball or bat) are maintained.
Projected upper level: Should be on a fast track for the bigs.

His college profile can be found here.

    RBI - 100

    And if you’re keeping track…

  2. Thanks for your helpful post.

Researching, analyzing and writing up 50 draft picks in 48 hrs isn’t for the faint of heart, especially when so many college programs don’t bother updating a guy’s bio page for a year plus.

His details have duly been updated, and will be added to over time as I work my way back through the draft field.

  4. Yes, and clearly the Puerto Rican education system is working wonders too.

You, sir, have utterly schooled me with your sharp wit, dazzling repartee, and sizzling satire.
